This picture is from the holocaust. These are some of the bravest and tough people that this world has ever seen. They were put through the toughest of times during World War II. The few people that did survive are some of the most amazing people that have walked this planet.

This song is called Where Is The Love by Black Eyed Peas.
"Where Is The Love?"

What's wrong with the world, mama
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Madness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Man, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

It just ain't the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones
With ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin' really gone
So I could ask myself really what is goin' wrong
In this world that we livin' in people keep on givin'
in
Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover
The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where's the love, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the truth, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the love, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love, the love, the love?

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm gettin' older, y'all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin'
Selfishness got us followin' our wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema
Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality
Instead of spreading love we're spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' down
There's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin' under
Gotta keep my faith alive till love is found
Now ask yourself

Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?
Where is the love?

Father, Father, Father help us
Send some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love?

Sing wit me y'all:
One world, one world (We only got)
One world, one world (That's all we got)
One world, one world
And something's wrong wit it (Yeah)
Something's wrong wit it (Yeah)
Something's wrong wit the wo-wo-world, yeah
We only got
(One world, one world)
That's all we got
(One world, one world)

It would have been better if you had selected a few lines to illustrate rather than including the lyrics for the whole song.

This song is about how the world is corrupt with the war. It tells what is going on with the world and that people need to remember to love instead of fight.

key.jpg

I think the key Oskar found is a symbol of hope. Oskar was heartset on finding out where the key came from. He didn't give up and he overcame many obstacles along the way. He talked to strangers and even rode on a subway which he was always scared to do. He went out and survived the streets of the Big Apple.

9/11 Survivor

This is a link to a story about a 9/11 survivor. Pasquale Buzzelli was on the 64th floor when it suddenly collapsed on him. He was rescued after two hours of being unconscious. I think he is a true survivor. Being in his position must have been a terrifying experience and the fact that he lived through it is amazing.

The War in the Air

By Howard Nemerov

For a saving grace, we didn't see our dead,
Who rarely bothered coming home to die
But simply stayed away out there
In the clean war, the war in the air.

Seldom the ghosts come back bearing their tales
Of hitting the earth, the incompressible sea,
But stayed up there in the relative wind,
Shades fading in the mind,

Who had no graves but only epitaphs
Where never so many spoke for never so few:
Per ardua, said the partisans of Mars,
Per aspera, to the stars.

That was the good war, the war we won
As if there was no death, for goodness's sake.
With the help of the losers we left out there
In the air, in the empty air.

This is a poem about the war that is fought in the air. It is an overlooked part of war. The poet talks about the people that do not come back from this and that stay out there. Their bodies are left out there while other soldiers are brought home. This shows that no matter what, not everyone is able to survive in war.

Footsteps Of Pain

By: Barbara Kasey Smith
I walk through this arid desert,
Heaven emits a powerful light,
searing everything in its sight,
my footsteps waver...
the load's heavy, thirst mocks.
Each footstep brings fluid to my eyes,
a desire to give-in and expire...
my strength, will, and endurance is dire,
life feels worthless and time short.
A fierce storm comes,
cleanses and cools my entire body,
mends my doubts and agony,
allows me to reach God's hand...
rise up to live daily in His light.
God grants survival in the midst of trouble,
He may not respond as we so desire,
but, He will answer with what's best for us,
never fear...God will answer your need.

This poem gives a brief background about war and how the weather effects the soldiers. The heat makes them thirsty and tired. Every time the soldier walks through they survive the every day agony of war. The author thinks God is the reason for their survival

A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah

"To this day, I carry the pain that my sisters and parents felt. When I climbed down after the rebels were gone, I couldnt stand and my tears froze in my eyes. I felt like that all the time, as I cant stop thinking about that day. Whatt did my sisters do to anyone?" - This quote is a representation of survival because the boy that made it out of the village alive had to deal with the death of his entire family. It is an extremely horrible situation that he has to deal with constantly.

"Circumstances will change and things will be fine, just hold on a little more." - This quote is talking about the day to day life that Ishmael had to deal with. He had no food and continued to walk from deserted village to deserted village. It was hard to survive and he would have to do anything just to get something to eat.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close Quotes:

-This quote shows that Oskar can survive going out into the real world. He overcomes many fears throughout the book. He was always scared of a lot due to his father death. Oskar's tambourine gave him a sense of security to help him get through the tough times in his life with coping with his fathers death.

“It’s the tragedy of loving, you can’t love anything more than something you miss.”

-This quote explains that if you lose someone, you're always going to miss them no matter what. It shows that you can live without forgetting about someone and the memories you have held with them.
