Tim McGraw, If Your Reading This

If you're reading this
My Momma's sittin there
Looks like I only got a one way ticket over here
Sure wish I
Could give you one more kiss
And war was just a game we played when we were kids

I'm laying down my gun
I'm hanging up boots
I'm up here with God and we're both watchin' over you

[Chorus]
So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed
That it would go
And if you're reading this
I'm already home

If you're reading this
Half way around the would
I won't be there to see the birth of our little girl
I hope she looks like you
I hope she fight like me
Stands up for the innocent and the weak

I'm laying down my gun
I'm hanging up boots
Tell dad I don't regret that I followed in his shoes

[Chorus]
So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my momma always prayed that it would go
And if you're reading this
I'm already home

If you're reading this
There's gonna to come a day
When you'll move on
And find someone else
And that's ok
Just remember this
I'm in a better place
Where soldiers live in peace
And angels sing amazing grace

[Chorus]
So lay me down
In that open field out on the edge of town
And know my soul
Is where my Momma always prayed that it would go
And if you're reading this,
if you're reading this
I'm already home.

  • This song by Tim McGraw has a lot to do with war time relationships. In his lyrics it says covers all of the loved ones that will be effected if he were gone like his mother, father, wife, and daughter. I think that this song is a very good example of how there are many different relationships between a soldier at war.

Relationships between soldiers

  • Another aspect of relationships during war is the bond between soldiers. Soldiers often develop relationships with each other during a time of war. Often times when soldiers lose a friend to battle they feel as if they have lost a loved on as well.

Sometimes I think it should be a rule of war that you have to see somebody up close and get to know him before you can shoot him. ~M*A*S*H, Colonel Potter

This Quote has a lot of meaning, and is exactly how we wish war was. We shouldnt shoot people as if their practice targets, we need to realize who exactly it is we are shooting.

Older men declare war. But it is the youth that must fight and die. ~Herbert Hoover

This quote shows how war is handled through unequal relationships, one declares war while his people fight it.

"How can I explain to anybody the isolation we were kept in? Everything got around, but the news was unreliable unconfirmed.Even though it is happening right next to you, you dont believe it. And even if you do believe it, yoyucannot dwell on it, it would be the end of you. You believe it evevn if you let yourself see it. Perhaps this deliberate blindness is a form of self preservation."

"To have a son in wartime is the worst curse that can befall a mother, no matter what anyone says.”
